Last week Senator Craig Thomas died of complication from Leukemia. In accordance with the laws of Wyoming, the Republican Party must provide the Governor with the names of three candidates they’d like the Governor appoint to fill out the remainder of Thomas’ term. The Governor is then given the opportunity to pick one of the three names provided to him by the state GOP. That person then becomes the junior senator of Wyoming until January, 2009.
It turns out that ANYONE can apply to be the GOP’s top three picks. You can download the application here. The survey asks what kind of service applicants have provided to the state of Wyoming, but it doesn’t say you have been to Wyoming.
I know I picked up my trash when I visited Jackson Hole 18 years ago. Do I qualify? If you know someone who is dedicated to the state of Wyoming, have them pick up an application to become Senator today.
